A Modern Touch to a Classic Home

Recently, we undertook an exciting home improvement project on a charming 1960s bungalow located in Queensway Terrace North, close to Lincoln Fields.  This renovation focused on replacing the old, worn-out vertical siding at the back of the house with new white vinyl siding, adding insulation, and updating the trim around the windows and sliding patio door.

Enhancing Energy Efficiency with Rigid Insulation

One of the primary goals of this renovation was to improve the home’s energy efficiency. The original siding, typical of homes built in the 60s, offered minimal insulation, resulting in higher energy costs and less comfort during Ottawa’s chilly winters. To address this, we added a layer of rigid insulation beneath the new siding. This additional insulation significantly increased the R-value, providing better thermal resistance and a more comfortable living environment year-round.

A Fresh, Modern Look

The new siding not only enhances the home’s energy efficiency but also gives it a fresh, modern appearance. We selected high-quality, durable siding that complements the bungalow’s mid-century charm while offering improved protection against the elements. The clean lines and updated texture of the siding bring a clean, revitalized look to the back of the house.

Finishing Touches

Attention to detail was key in this renovation. Our siding installer, Brian, with over 30 years of experience, also replaced the trim around the new vinyl siding,  and ensured that the area around the sliding patio door was meticulously finished.

The new trim not only enhanced the overall aesthetic but also provided additional sealing and insulation, further improving this home’s energy performance.

By combining modern materials and techniques with a respect for the original design, we were able to significantly enhance both the beauty and functionality of this 1960s bungalow. The homeowners are now enjoying a more energy-efficient and aesthetically pleasing backyard space, proving that even small updates can have a big impact.
